The Vodafone Fiji 7s team is still aiming to finish in second spot in the World Series despite losing to Australia in the last pool match of the England 7s this morning by 24-12.

Coach Ben Ryan said they also want to take out their third title.

Fiji will meet the unbeaten Samoans in the cup quarterfinals at 10.34pm tonight.

Samoa coach Viliamu Punivalu said he is proud of what they have achieved so far after the last two disappointing tournaments.

Punivalu added that for them it's about finishing well as they have the Commonwealth Games coming up.

Australia starved Fiji of possession and dominated the game to claim victory and heads into the quarter finals as the top team from pool C.

Fiji scored two early tries in the first half to Emosi Mulevoro and Donasio Ratubuli and they led 12-7 at halftime.

The Osea Kolinisau captained side lacked the urgency in the second half as Australia scored three unanswered tries to win.

Defence is still an area of concern for Fiji as they were bouncing off tackles in the second half.

In the first pool match Fiji defeated Spain 38-0 and later beat Japan 43-7.

In other quarterfinals England meets France at 9:28pm, Australia play Kenya at 9:50pm and South Africa takes on New Zealand at 10:12pm.

If Fiji beats Samoa, they will meet either New Zealand or South Africa in the Cup semifinals.

The Cup semifinal starts at 1.18am tomorrow while the Cup final will kick off at 4.02am.

Meanwhile, New Zealand have won their 12th World Series title in 15 years after reaching the quarterfinal despite losing to England 15-12 in the last pool match.

Looking at other results, Samoa beat Canada 19-12, Kenya defeated USA 22-5, Wales lost to England 14-10, Scotland thumped Portugal 31-5 and New Zealand thrashed Canada 40-10.
