The Digicel Fiji 7s team made a slow start to their opening match of the Rugby World Cup but came back strongly in the second half beating Tonga 45-nil.

Fiji scored seven tries to Waisea Nayacalevu, Joji Ragamate, Ilai Tinai while Watisoni Votu and Metuisela Talebula each scored two tries.

Fiji led 14-nil at halftime as they managed to find their form in the second half scoring five tries to claim the victory.

Defending champions and Fiji’s pool opponents Wales are confident of topping the pool.

Coach Paul Jones said the quarterfinal berth is not guaranteed unless you win all three games in the pool.


Fiji will take on Uruguay at 6.28pm today and its last pool match is against Wales at 12.42am Sunday. 

In other results, Samoa beat Zimbabwe 21-14,Kenya thrashed Philippines 45-5,New Zealand defeated Canada 31-12, Georgia lost to USA 26-19, defending champions Wales beat Uruguay 33-5,England won 21-7 over Portugal, Argentina humbled Hong Kong 47-7,Australia beat Spain 21-0,France defeated Tunisia 24-7,South Africa thumped Russia 31-0 and Japan lost to Scotland 19-17.

The Cup quarterfinals start at 9pm Sunday, the Cup semis kick off at 12.40am Monday while the World Cup 7s final will start at 4.55am Monday.
 
Meanwhile, our Women’s side will play Spain at 6:50pm today. 

The Fijiana then take on USA at 9.24pm before playing Brazil at 1:04am tomorrow.
