Team Fiji leads the medal tally at the Pacific Mini Games in the Cook Islands.

They have so far won 21 gold, 12 silver and 15 bronze.

Fiji's 21 gold medals have come from athletics, bowls and netball.

Athletics itself won 18 gold medals while bowls won 2.

Athletics Fiji coach Albert Miller was impressed with the performance of the athletes as they achieved their goal.

Miller said their aim was to win 15 gold but they won three extra.

Sprinters Makelesi Bulikiobo and Niko Verekauta were the stars of the athletics competition, winning five gold medals each.

In the long distance, Kavita Maharaj also surprised everyone in this year's meet after winning 3 gold medals for Team Fiji.

Meanwhile, Tahiti is in second place with 19 gold, 16 silver and 13 bronze while New Caledonia lies in third place with 15 gold, 12 silver and 13 bronze.

Today is rest day in the Cook Islands with the games continuing tomorrow.

The Pacific Mini Games will end this Sunday.
