Fiji invited as an observer to Pacific Local Government Forum
Karibaiti Taoaba, Regional Director of the Commonwealth Local Government Forum Pacific, said this follows the Commonwealth’s recent decision to relax Fiji’s “full suspension” to a suspension from the councils of the Commonwealth.
Taoaba said the new status permits Fiji to participate in the Commonwealth Games in July and also the Pacific Local Government Forum that will be held in Papua New Guinea.
She said as an observer, Fiji is able to be present at the conference where they can contribute to discussions and present case studies, however, they will not be able to be part of any decision making process.
Meanwhile, the Pacific Local Government Forum will take place from the 19-23 May in Port Moresby and will feature a Local Government Ministers and Mayors Meeting, a Local Government Research Roundtable and a 2-day Local Government Conference and Exhibition.
The event organized by the Commonwealth Local Government Forum Pacific carries the theme “Pacific Futures - Building our Local Communities”.
