Fiji honoured to have Pacific leaders
Addressing the delegates of the Engaging with the Pacific meeting last night in Natadola, the President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau said Fiji is indeed honoured to have the Pacific Leaders here and it speaks volumes of their genuine desire to engage with one another.
Ratu Epeli said for us in Fiji, that is true friendship in the Pacific Way and the experience and moment reminds us that the old adage will always ring true that "a friend in need is a friend indeed".
The President, along with Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama will also brief the Pacific Leaders at a breakfast function tomorrow morning, and Ratu Epeli highlighted that a special speaker will share with them the visions of the project called "Pacific Bridge to Noble Wealth".
Meanwhile, following the overwhelming support shown by Pacific Island states in regards to Fiji's Strategic Framework for Change and Roadmap, Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama has reiterated the need for the international community’s to engage with Fiji, in its efforts to build a better nation.
Commodore Bainimarama said what transpired earlier this month has certainly strained Fiji's relationship with Australia and other international communities and again called on Australia to understand and partner with Fiji in bringing about changes and reforms before elections on 2014.
He said further interruptions would not in any way help Fiji's situation and will only strain relations and pleaded with international communities to understand Fiji's situation and engage in dialogues for balance and fair criticism.
The Prime Minister said constant interruptions by international communities will only dampen their aim for an election and could eventually have an effect from having election in 2014.
