Fiji is a sovereign nation and it has every right to have laws governing the media in the country just like any other country in the world.

Those are the words of the President of the Pacific Islands News Association, Moses Stevens following the implementation of the Media Industry Development Decree in Fiji.

Stevens said he recently met with the Information Ministry officials when he was in Fiji and he understands the government's position.

He said he is also happy that some of the submissions presented to the government on the decree were accepted before the decree was implemented.
