The Digicel Fiji Sevens team ended their 10 year losing streak at the Hong Kong 7's last night with a close 26-24 win against South Africa.
Manager Jope Tuivanuavou said his message to the boys before the final, was for them to silence critics and prove their selection in the team.
Tuivanuavou added that Coach Iliesa Tanivula was speechless after bringing joy to the rugby fans from Happy Valley.
It was a sweet win for the Iliesa Tanivula coached side as the boys showed commitment and cohesion.
Fiji played with confidence from the opening whistle as they scored 3 tries in the first half two to halfback Emosi Vucago and winger Osea Kolinisau.
South Africa replied with 2 quick tries as they settled, Fiji leading 19-12 at halftime.
In the second half Fiji increased the tempo of the game and Jerry Burotu crossed over under the post for a 26-19 lead.
The Vereniki Goneva led side was shown two yellow cards to the captain and Nasoni Roko.
South Africa scored in the dying minutes of the game but could not convert giving Fiji the win.
Fiji beat Kenya 24-7 in the semifinal and edged England 10-7 in the quarterfinals.
South Africa still lead the IRB Sevens points series with 84, followed by England on 68 points while Fiji has jumped to 3rd place on 62 points.
Defending champions New Zealand are in 4th place with 60 points.
