Fiji drops in rankings on ease of doing business
Fiji is now ranked 39th from the previous ranking of 36th, out of the 181 countries surveyed, and is highest ranked in the pacific region ahead of our neighbors Tonga and Samoa.
And while efforts have been made to speed up the system and remove the red tape which hindered the setting up of a business, Fiji is ranked much lower in terms of starting a business at 87.
However, on a positive note Fiji is still ahead of many developed nations including India, Brazil, Chile, Indonesia and Argentina in terms of protecting investors and employing workers.
Singapore is ranked number one with New Zealand 2nd and the US third in terms of the ease of doing business while New Zealand leads the way at number one in terms of starting a business.
Deputy Chairman of the Fiji Trade and Investment Bureau Commander Villiame Naupoto said they hope to better this ranking with steps being taken to address investors needs and concerns.
