The Ousted Prime Minister has today stressed that Fiji does not need a People's Charter to achieve true democracy.
While reacting to the statement from the Interim Attorney General that the SDL should come on board and be part of the National Council for Building a Better Fiji, Laisenia Qarase said the SDL's stand is clear that it will not be part of the council.
Qarase said the Charter should not be forced on the people of the country and the interim government should take steps to start dialogue on the People's Charter before formulating the document.
When questioned on Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum's comments on why the SDL is opposing the formulation of the Charter if the interim government's main objective is to have a truly democratic nation which has equal opportunities for all irrespective of their race and religion, Qarase stresses that there is no perfect democracy in the world.
