The Digicel Fiji 7s team started their Dubai 7s campaign on a winning note beating Portugal 31-7 in their opening pool game.

Although the side struggled in defence it was the speed and understanding in the Fiji team that set them apart from their opponent.

In the first half, Fiji just managed two tries to Josefata Bole and Miti Nacagilevu leading 12-nil at half time.

In the second spell, Fiji increased the tempo of the game with tries to Jerry Burotu, Emosi Vucago and Nasoni Roko for the 31-7 win.

Fiji's second pool game tonight at 9.56pm they will face France before the last game in day 1 at 3.30am.

In the other game England defeated France 24 - 13. Samoa drew with Wales 21 all, Kenya beat Arabian Gulf 31 - 19 and New Zealand beat USA 31 - 7.
