The Vodafone Flying Fijians defeated the Ikale-Tahi Tongan side 23-18 in today's opening match of the Pacific Nations Cup.

The Fijian side struggled to put down any tries in the first half and gave the chance to Tonga to lead 15-0 at half time.

Captain Sunia Koto says that they started off their first half in the way they did not plan.

Handling errors and missed tackles were redeemed in the second half allowing points on Fiji's scoreboard.

Fiji's tries came from Nemia Soqeta, Eremasi Radodro and Ben Volavola while Seremaia Bai successfully kicked 2 penalties.

Meanwhile, Tongan Captain Nili Latu says the Fijian side was dangerous and that they got punished at the end.

The Vodafone Flying Fijians will now prepare for their second match with Samoa at 3pm next Saturday.
