Defending Pacific Netball Series champions the Fiji Pearls beat Papua New Guinea 59-44 in their opening match.
 
Earlier this afternoon the Fiji under-21 netball side came back strongly and beat the home side Samoa 42-39 in the Pacific netball series which is currently underway in Apia.

Fiji was trailing 8-9 in the first quarter, 16-21 in the second but found their form in the third quarter to draw level at 28-all.

In the last quarter Fiji managed to pull away with a 42-39 win.
 
The Fiji Pearls will meet Cook Islands tomorrow in their second match.
