The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team has advanced to the Cup semifinals of the Hamilton 7s where they will take on South Africa at 3:16pm.

Fiji defeated Canada 33–7 in their quarterfinal.

A first minute penalty to Fiji allowed Vilimoni Botitu to race away before giving a chance to Meli Derenalagi to score his 4th try in Hamilton.

Aminiasi Tumaba scored the second try for Fiji through some skillful footwork.

Canada’s Connor Braid dove to the try line after a breakdown to score their first try in the last minute of the 1st half.

Waisea Nacuqu made a straight run through the Canadians defence line to score another try for Fiji before the break.

Fiji led 21-7 at half time.

Coach Gareth Baber reminded the players during the break to win the ball and score first.

In the second minute of the second half Aminiasi Tuimaba pulled away from Canada to score and extend Fiji’s lead 28-7.

Josua Vakurinabili scored another try from the corner from a good flow of passing by the players.

Fiji held their defence to deny any try to the Canadians in the second half.

Meanwhile South Africa defeated Samoa 28-19 in the second quarterfinal.

Fiji will take on South Africa in the first semifinal at 3.16 this afternoon.

New Zealand will face USA in the second semifinal at 3.38 this afternoon.

New Zealand defeated Australia in their quarterfinal 24-17 while USA beat Scotland 19-14 in the last quarterfinal.

The final of the Hamilton 7's will start at 7.10 tonight.
