Fiji day celebrations officially launched
That is the message from the Acting Prime Minister and Minster for Defense Ratu Epeli Ganilau as he officially launched the Fiji day celebrations to be held on Thursday and Friday with the theme "Celebrate our Fiji" today in Suva.
Ratu Ganilau said that even though the 10th of October is the main day for Fiji day, cabinet has decided that the celebrations be held on the 7th and 8th of October to allow more time for people to enjoy the long weekend.
Cabinet had earlier in the year approved the release of $100,000 from the ministry of finance to be used for the nationwide celebrations and an additional $15,000 was received through sponsorship.
The first day celebrations on Thursday Oct 7th will focus on school children and the second day Friday 8th October is planned for the Fiji day parade by the RFMF culminating with a military Tattoo by the members of the security forces.
The fireworks display will mark the conclusion of the celebrations.
Papua New Guinea Prime Minister, Sir Michael Somare is expected to be in the country for Fiji Day.
