Handling errors and indiscipline from the Vodafone Fiji Sevens team nearly cost them a win against Japan in their second pool match of the Dubai Sevens.
Savenaca Rawaca scored the winning try in the dying stages of the match to give Fiji a 21‑17 win over the Asian Cup Champions.
Fiji scored two tries in the first half, but this early lead was somehow interrupted when Vatemo Ravouvou was given a yellow card.
Japan scored two early first half tries and then went on to lead Fiji 17‑14 in the match after a try from Josefa Lilidamu.
Clinical support play in the last forty seconds of the match saw Savenaca Rawaca cross over for Fiji's winning try.
Meanwhile, Fiji‑born Henry Speight received a yellow card in his HSBC World Sevens Series Debut for Australia.
Fiji will take on Argentina at 3.28am tomorrow in their last pool match.
The Cup quarterfinals will start at 8 pm tomorrow, Cup semis will start at 1.41am Sunday while the Cup final will be at 4.48am Sunday.
