Fiji athletes have claimed another gold medal in the women's 400 metres after Makesi Bulikiobo won the finals.

In other races Niko Verekauta also finished first to take the gold medal whilst school mate Iliesa Namosimalua took silver.

Athletics missed out again on another gold medal this afternoon after Sireli Naikelekelevesi was beaten again in the 1500 meters finals by Samoan, Aunese Cureen.

Team Fiji Athletics officials are hopeful that veteran runner, Jone Delai will recover in time and feature in the 4x100 metres relay on Saturday.

Delai pulled a hamstring in the mens 100 metres final after winning the gold yesterday and coach Albert Miller says they have other replacements if Delai fails to recover.

Another gold medal has slipped from Fiji after Lawn Bowls veteran Ratish Lal, lost his final game 21-15 to the Cook Islands placing him third in the overall competition.

In soccer, Fiji defeated Vanuatu in the second semifinal by 3-0. The first men's semifinal New Caledonia beat the Solomons by 3 goals to 2.
