Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says Prophet Mohammed’s Birthday is the occasion that serves as an opportunity to appreciate the diversity of thought we enjoy in our society.
In his message on this occasion, Bainimarama says that along with hundreds of millions of people around the world, our Fijian Muslim brothers and sisters are celebrating the birth and life of the Prophet Mohammed.
He says the values taught by the Prophet Mohammed formed the foundation of Islam, and carry meaning for all of humanity, irrespective of cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds.
Bainimarama says our shared identity as Fijians transcends religious boundaries, and it is a personal point of pride as Prime Minister that we so openly embrace the festivities of our fellow Fijians.
He says we can all respect the impact the Prophet Mohammed has had on universal values, moralities and ethics and we can all seek to uplift ourselves and our communities to live out the virtues of unity, understanding, peace, justice and equality.
Bainimarama calls on all of the citizens to take time to reflect on the teachings of the Prophet Mohammed, and join hands in recognition of the values of brotherhood and sisterhood that he so often preached.
He says Fiji’s progress can be measured by the care and compassion we show our fellow Fijians.
Bainimarama says if we deepen the bonds that exist between us – we will continue to advance our nation and our people towards a brighter future.
