Today is Diwali, the festival of lights which is a major Indian festival celebrated by Indians across the globe.

The lights or lamps signify the up lighting of darkness and victory of good over evil within. This day is also commemorated as the homecoming of Hindu God Rama after a 14 year exile in the forest.

Diwali in Fiji is enjoyed and celebrated by people regardless of what their race or faith is.

Meanwhile, the Shri Sanatan Dharam Prathinidhi Sabha said tolerance, working together towards building a better Fiji and reconciliation is what the country currently needs and that is what the Festival of lights "Diwali" teaches us.

Sabha General Secretary Kamal Sharma said when several Diwali candles or diyas are lit it chases darkness showing unity which tells people the significance of getting together and striding towards building a better country.
