The Vodafone Fiji 7s team has won its opening match at the 2017 Vancouver 7s after beating Wales 34-19 early this morning.
The back to back World 7s series champions dominated the match from the start of the whistle as they scored four tries in the first half to lead Wales 24-7 at halftime.
Kalione Nasoko, Alivereti Veitokani and Mesulame Kunavula scored Fiji’s tries in the first half.
Nasoko scored a double in the first half.
Key player changes made by Coach Gareth Baber at halftime further made an impact for Fiji in the second half as replacements Nemani Nagusa and Waisea Nacuqu scored a try each to seal the win.
Wales only managed to score three tries in the match.
Looking at other match results after Round 1 of pool matches, Australia beat France 12-7, USA thrashed Japan 52-0, Argentina defeated Samoa 24-19 and England beat Kenya 28-14.
Fiji will take on Samoa at 10.12am today in their second pool match and then meet Argentina at 1.52pm today in their last pool match.
The Medal quarter finals will start at 6.08am tomorrow, the semis start at 10.08am tomorrow while the final will kick off at 1.19pm tomorrow.
Barring any upsets, Fiji is likely to meet USA, Australia or France in the quarter finals, we will meet either New Zealand or England in semifinals and South Africa in the final.
