The national sevens rugby team got off to a shaky start at the USA 7s but managed a hard fought 24-0 win over Scotland.

Fiji's defense stood out in the first three minutes which resulted in the first try to former skipper Lepani Botia.

There were some miss tackles after the first try as Scotland tried to work their way through Fiji's defense.

Donasio Ratubuli scored Fiji’s second try before half time as they led 12-0.

In the first three minutes of the second half both sides committed basic mistakes before captain Osea Kolinisau scored their third try.

Fiji applied the pressure on Scotland close to their try line on the stroke of full time before Samisoni Viriviri scored the fourth and final try.

Fiji will play Australia at 4:02pm today in it's second pool game.

The final pool game is against New Zealand at 9:50am tomorrow and the quarter finals will start at 1:52pm tomorrow.

Fiji is expected to meet Samoa, England or Portugal in the quarter finals.

If Fiji makes it into the semifinals, then they are expected to play either South Africa, Kenya, Wales, Argentina or France.

The semifinals will kick off at 7:32am on Monday while the final will be held at 10:25am on Monday.
 
Looking at the results so far, defending champions South Africa thrashed Wales 43-0, Canada beat Kenya 17-15 while New Zealand defeated Australia 31-7.
