The Vodafone Fiji 7s team has moved to the top of the Sevens World Series standing after beating New Zealand 24‑17 in the Scotland Sevens Cup Final this morning.
The win moves Fiji ahead of South Africa in the race for the HSBC Sevens World Series title, having earlier beaten the South Africans by 15‑0 in the cup quarter final.
Fiji now has 147 points, South Africa is second with 142 points, New Zealand is in third place with 139 points while England is in fourth place with 117 points.
The race for the series title is still open as South Africa can win the series if they win the England 7s.
Fiji has to finish ahead of South Africa this weekend.
Captain Osea Kolinisau dedicated the Glasgow 7s win to all the mothers in Fiji.
He says they will regroup and focus on the final leg of the HSBC World Sevens Series in London this weekend.
Apisai Domolailai produced a heroic performance and scored two crucial tries while Savenaca Rawaca and captain Osea Kolinisau scored a try each.
Coach Ben Ryan also made a comment on the team’s performance after his half time message.
Fiji is pooled with Canada, Argentina and Samoa in the England 7s this weekend and Ryan says they have a fit team and want to win back‑to‑back tournaments.
Semi Kunatani, Osea Kolinisau and Pio Tuwai were also part of the Scotland 7s dream team.
Fiji, South Africa and New Zealand have qualified for the Rio Olympics while England has to finish ahead of Australia to claim the fourth position.
In the England 7s this weekend, Fiji plays Samoa at 9.06pm Saturday, we then take on Argentina at 12.12am Sunday and Canada at 3.18am Sunday.
The Cup quarters start at 9.28pm Sunday, the Cup semis are at 1.18am Sunday while the Cup final is at 4.27am Sunday.
