As the hub of the Southwest Pacific, Fiji is an important transshipment point which also makes Fiji and attractive target for transnational criminal elements.
That was the comment from the Charge d'Affaires of the US Embassy, Richard Bruett at the closing of the weeklong training yesterday to officers from the Immigration, FIRCA, FIMSA, Ports Authority, Police and Quarantine.
Bruett said there is a need to cooperate and engage with Fiji.
Bruett said in November last year the US Pacific Command Center for Disaster Management led a disaster preparedness workshop in Suva which brought together stakeholders of security forces on what to do in the event of a real emergency.
