The Fiji Women's volleyball side created history by advancing to the 2010 FIVB World Championship Asian second round preliminary tournament.

Fiji won their final and third match last night at the Oceania Zonal Championship in Wellington, beating Tonga by 3-0.

They are likely to go to the second round as the second best team, with New Zealand to go as top qualifier although they have a game against Tonga later today.

The Fiji Women's team won the first set over Tonga by 25-23, the same score line for the second set and in third they won by 26-24.

Anaseini Seniloli was the top scorer with 21 points, including 19 kill spikes.

It was the best performance ever by the Fiji Women's side, although they played the whole tournament with only nine players after two of their key players were denied visas by the New Zealand immigration.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Men's volleyball side has bowed out after losing second straight match.

They first lost to New Zealand 3-0 and last night Samoa beat them by 3-0.
