The Fiji Women’s Hockey team lost to the New Zealand Maori team in their match at the Oceania Pacific Hockey Tournament by 3-2.

Team manager Mereia Shaw said the Fiji girls were winning all along and the Maori side made a comeback with only 12 minutes of play remaining to take the lead.

She added that in the last quarter the team failed but she is proud of their performance considering that the New Zealand team is the tournament favourites.

Shaw said there are still some key areas they will have to work on to maintain consistency in the competition and the girls are confident to outclass their other two Pacific rivals, Papua New Guinea and Samoa, to make the playoffs for the Olympics, representing the Pacific Islands.

Fiji’s next game is against Australia county at 5.45 this afternoon.
