The Fiji Under 23 national soccer team preparing for the Pacific Games has finished in third place in the Four Nations Friendship Cup in Vanuatu.

Fiji lost to Vanuatu 1-0 in their last round robin match of the tournament.

Labasa striker Christopher Wasasala received the top scorer award.

He scored two goals in the tournament.

The Fiji soccer team last won a gold medal in the Pacific Games 12 years ago when the games was held in Fiji.

In the 2007 Pacific Games, Fiji lost to New Caledonia 1-0 to settle for the silver medal while they lost to Solomon Islands in the semifinals in the 2011 Games.

They also lost the 3rd place play off to Tahiti.

Fiji is in group A with Tahiti, Vanuatu and the Federated States of Micronesia in this year’s Pacific Games.

This year’s soccer competition in the Pacific Games is also an Olympic qualifier.

It will also feature the NZ under 23 side.

The Pacific Games will be held from the 4th to the 18th of next month.
