The Vodafone Fiji Under-20 rugby side lost to Wales 48-19 in their first match of the Junior World Championship in New Zealand.

Prop forward Aseri Robarobalevu, captain Akuila Tabualevu and Veniona Toga scored for Fiji.

Lock forward Lote Nasiga and try scorer Robarobalevu were shown yellow cards in the first half due to indiscipline while the referee awarded two penalty tries to Wales.

Wales scored a try just after 7 seconds into the game and kept applying the pressure on the Junior Flying Fijians throughout the match.

Meanwhile, in the first match Australia defeated Argentina 36-17.

NZ takes on Samoa at 7.35 tonight.
