Vodafone Fiji U20 rugby team has beaten Tonga 19‑10 in the Oceania Junior Trophy final today.
Fiji’s number Rupeni Vakasilimini scored the opening try of the match after 8 minutes.
Tonga got on the board with a penalty to Patelesio Oneone in the 22nd minute.
Fiji led 5‑3 at halftime.
Fiji started strongly with Vakasilimini scoring a try after the 1st minute of the second half as Fiji extended their lead to 12‑3.
The national under 20 were reduced to 14 men in the 57th minute after a yellow card was shown to Vasikali Mudu for a late tackle.
Tonga capitalized and wing Sunia Latu scored with Oneone successfully converting the try.
A few minutes later Tonga were reduced to 14 men as Lisate Huihui was shown a yellow card.
Fiji’s replacement Josaia Raboiliku sealed the win for Fiji scoring a try in the 78th minute with Nailati Ukalele converting the try.
Fiji will be travelling to Zimbabwe for the World Rugby Junior Trophy in 2016.
Meanwhile, in the 3rd and 4th place playoff PNG thrashed Vanuatu 80-17.
