The Vodafone Fiji Under 17 national side had their first win in the Under 17 Oceania Football Championships yesterday after they defeated Cook Islands 5-0.

Fiji’s first goal came from Simeli Batiratu in the 24th minute of the first half while Muni Reddy put in another one in the 37th minute to give them a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Batiratu continued his impressive form in the second half and scored 2 more goals to increase the score to 4-0.

France Katarogo came in as a replacement for Batiratu and scored Fiji’s last goal to claim the 5 nil victory.

This is the Vodafone Fiji soccer team’s first victory after they had were thumped by New Zealand 6-0 in their first match and drew nil all against Papua New Guinea in their second match.

They also lost to New Caledonia 5-1 in their third match.

Fiji will take on Samoa at 3pm this afternoon.

The winner of the OFC Under 17 Championship will qualify for the FIFA Under 17 World Cup.
