Team Fiji swimmer, Carl Probert has failed to qualify for the semifinals in his event at the Beijing Olympic Games.

Probert took part in the Men's 100 metres freestyle and was placed 4th in heat 2 with a time of 52.37 seconds.

He will now put his concentration on the Men's 50 metres freestyle event tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Michael Phelps stormed to victory in the men's 200 metres freestyle swimming, claiming his third gold medal and third world record of the Beijing Olympics.

Phelps, 23, finished nearly two seconds ahead of South Korea's Park Tae-hwan in a time of one minute 42.92 seconds. The American owned the previous record of 1.43.86 seconds. Phelps will race for his fourth medal tonight in the 200 metres butterfly, yet another event in which he holds the world record.

The stunning footprints which made up the Opening Ceremony in Beijing were fake, not fireworks.

The Footprints which erupted into the sky and appeared as fireworks were actually computer graphics, complete with invented smog and camera shake to make it look as though they were shot from a moving helicopter.

Viewers around the world watched as the giant footprints moved from Tiananmen Square to the Birds Nest Stadium. But what appeared as fireworks were actually computer graphics.

Meanwhile, a pretty girl who won national fame after singing at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games was only mimimg.

Wearing a red dress and pigtails, Lin Miaoke charmed a worldwide audience with a rendition of "Ode to the Motherland". But the singer was Yang Peiyi, who was not allowed to appear because she is not as "flawless" as nine year old Lin.

The show's musical director said Lin was used because it was in the best interests of the country.

Now looking at the medal tally, China still leads but this time they now have 13 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze. USA jumped to second place with 7 gold, 7 silver and 8 bronze while South Korea slipped to third with 5 gold, 6 silver and 1 bronze.
