The Fiji Swimming team will need to dig deep when they participate in this year’s Pacific Games in PNG.
The swimming team did not win any gold medals in 2011 which the team will be looking to improve on.
Fiji Swim coach Sharon Smith says they are targeting to win 5 gold medals in PNG this year.
Smith says they are hoping swimmers like Caroline Puamua, Matelita Buadromo, Tieri Erasito, Carl Probert, Douglas Miller and Paul Elaisa win gold medals.
Most of these swimmers took part in the 2011 Pacific Games.
Smith says they know they will have to perform.
In the 2007 Pacific Games Fiji won 2 gold medals which came from the women’s category and in the 2003 Pacific Games which was held in Fiji, we won 4 gold medals.
40 gold medals are up for grabs in swimming for this year’s Pacific Games.
The Pacific Games will be held from the 4th to the 18th of next month.
