The Fiji Saw millers Association said action needs to be taken against those saw millers and hardware companies who perform unfair trade practices, by selling low standard timber under the pretext of treated timber.
President Jay Dayal said termites are attracted to untreated timber and they have lodged complaints against some operators who have been selling low grade timber.
Dayal stressed that people should buy treated timber to build their houses after the discovery of a suspected new species of termites in Lautoka.
These termites are posing a major threat to wooden buildings and forestry in the areas around Lautoka.
