In line with the Government's plan to provide current and new home owners affordable options, Fiji Pine Ltd is hoping to do just that when the harvesting of the plantations starts within the next couple of weeks.
Fiji Pine Board member Ratu Jolame Lewanavanua said the harvesting of the pine plantations in Gau, Kadavu, Lau as well as other areas will start soon, and this will mean cheaper timber prices for the local market.
Lewanavanua said the harvesting will start once Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama returned from his trip to China and approves the winning tender application.
The Government had earlier put out a tender process calling on interested companies willing to harvest pine plantations.
