Fiji Pearls Netball skipper Matila Waqanidrola put up a sterling performance as they defeated the Papua New Guinea Pepes 67-41 in the Digicel Tri Series Plus One Championship last night.

The 33-year-old stood out in defense for the Pearls with a total of 14 intercepts and also disrupted the Pepes attack.

Vice Captain Vaiti Waqatabu also provided quality balls for shooters Afa Rusivakula and Maria Lutua.

Rusivakula scored 31 goals and Lutua managed 28 goals while replacement shooter Nina Cirikisuva scored 8 goals for Fiji.

Pearls coach Julie Hornwegg said it was one of the best wins for Fiji.


Papua New Guinea captain Winnie Mavara said Matila Waqanidrola was instrumental in organizing the defense for Fiji.


In another game yesterday the Fiji A side defeated Tonga 46-32.

Looking at today’s programme Tonga will play Fiji A at 4:35pm before Northern Ireland face the PNG Pepes at 7pm.
