Fiji Now at a Crossroad
Commodore Bainimarama said although no changes can be made to the constitution and the Electoral Act by the interim government, a clear mandate will be set out for the politicians to follow when we have the next democratically elected government.
He said this step has to be taken as a number of racist and unfair policies were formulated by the ousted government.
The Interim PM also said that he is not delaying the elections to hold on to power.
Commodore Bainimarama said he had to take the step on December 5th as the Laisenia Qarase led government was taking Fiji in the wrong direction with unfair policies and excessive wastage of tax dollars. He said this time things have to be done the right way.
Meanwhile, ousted Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase said the next elected government is not obliged to follow any rules set out by the interim government.
Qarase said if the SDL wins the next elections, it will definitely look at its own policies that should be implemented.
Submissions for the interim government's proposal to set up a National Council for Better Fiji and a People's Charter close at the end of this month. SDL has already confirmed that it will not be part of the council.
