The Fiji Navy has successfully rescued 14 people on board the "Vaipoe No.1 which was reported missing yesterday.

In a statement the Navy Maritime Surveillance Centre which was monitoring the case since it was first reported, later dispatched the RFNS Levuka on the same day. The vessel was found drifting North East of the Mabulici Reef, and was safely towed into Somosomo Harbour in Gau last night.

Initial reports from the owners highlighted mechanical problems on board, and investigations have discovered that the vessel was crewed by three personnel and also had eleven passengers onboard who had boarded from Nukunuku village in Lakeba.

The "Vaipoe No.1 has been directed t head straight for Suva for further investigations by the Navy, Fisheries Department and FIMSA for suspected breaches to her licensing condition.

The vessel was operating in the Lau waters purchasing fish and beach demer from villages in the area.
