An Auckland based group, "Democracy for Fiji", said New Zealand should continue with its firm stance on Fiji.
A spokesperson for the group Nik Naidu told Radio New Zealand that it appears that Fiji is looking for an excuse not to attend the Pacific Leaders Forum in order to avoid facing questions over promised general elections by next March.
Naidu said that Commodore Frank Bainimarama has been allowed to go to the Forum so he should have gone.
