Fiji Law Society lawyers fail to appear in CourtThe Master of the High Court has ordered the Fiji Law Society to pay a fine after its lawyers failed to appear in court this morning.

When the case filed by the Law Society against the Judicial Services Commission and the appointment of the Acting Chief Justice was called in chambers today, all defendants in the case were present, however the Fiji Law Society lawyers did not turn up.

Lawyer representing Acting CJ Anthony Gates Amrita Maharaj confirmed after the case that the Fiji Law Society has been ordered to pay $100 as court costs and the case is adjourned to November 12th.

The Fiji Law Society had earlier made an application that the presiding judge in the case, Justice John Byrne be struck out from hearing the case and are seeking to have the case assigned to another judge.
