It is a step in the right direction even though a little late.
Those were the words of Fiji Fish Managing Director Grahame Southwick on the cabinet decision to endorse the setting up of a new Food Unit that will specifically look after the food and fish export industries.
The unit will focus on getting Fiji back into the list of countries exporting fish to the European Union after being delisted following an assessment by the EU Food and Veterinary Office.
Southwick added Fiji Fish are happy with the decision.
Interim Minister for Health Dr Jiko Luveni said the Food Unit will facilitate fish export inspection, the certification of fish and fisheries products, the verification and also custodian of the EU and other importing countries legislative requirements.
