The Fiji Football Association Delegates will tonight take a vote on whether the amendment proposed by the current Board of Control to only allow Fiji FA Vice Presidents who have served 3 out of the last 5 years to contest the President’s post, should be passed.
Fijivillage has received confirmation that the proposed amendment to be tabled in the Ordinary Congress tonight states that to be eligible for nomination as a candidate for the office of President, the candidate must have served Fiji FA as its Vice President for at least 3 of the last 5 years prior to the date of the Congress at which the election will take place.
Another proposed amendment states that a candidate for the office of Vice President shall have served at District Associations either as a President or Vice President or as an Executive Committee member for at least 3 of the 5 years prior to being nominated as a candidate.
Other proposed amendments include the new eligibility for a candidate for the Office of President, Secretary or Treasurer of the District Association.
It states that the candidate shall have served the District Association as a Vice President or an Executive Committee member for at least 3 out of the last 5 years.
In a proposed amendment sent out by Fiji FA Chief Executive, Bob Kumar, it is noted that in recent years many officials appointed as President, Secretary and Treasurer have had no previous experience and frequently resign when they are under pressure, thus leaving the Association in a financial mess.
The Fiji FA also said that persons nominated will have to give a written undertaking to serve at least 3 out of the 4 years of their elected term in office.
Fijivillage has contacted Fiji FA President, Rajesh Patel on the proposed amendments that will be tabled in the Fiji FA meeting tonight.
He had said that he will comment on the proposed changes.
However we have tried numerous times and he is yet to respond.
If the amendment goes through for the Fiji FA President’s post, it would mean that only the Fiji FA Vice Presidents who have served 3 years prior to being nominated can contest the President’s post.
This would rule out anyone else from contesting the position.
The meeting starts at 7.30 tonight.
Stay with us for developments.
