The Fiji Football Association Delegates last night passed the amendment with a huge majority as proposed by the current Board of Control to only allow Fiji FA Vice Presidents who have served 3 out of the last 5 years to contest the President’s post.

The amendment was tabled in the Ordinary Congress meeting at Fiji FA’s headquarters in Vatuwaqa, which states that to be eligible for nomination as a candidate for the office of President, the candidate must have served Fiji FA as its Vice President for at least 3 of the last 5 years prior to the date of the Congress at which the election will take place.

After the meeting Fiji FA President, Rajesh Patel confirmed that there were some critics of motion from outsiders who did not serve any district.

He added the districts were also threatened that they may lose sponsorship, however they supported these motions.

With the passing of the amendment, it means that only the Fiji FA Vice Presidents who have served 3 years prior to being nominated can contest the Fiji FA President’s post.

This rules out anyone else from contesting the position.

Another proposed amendment that was also passed states that a candidate for the office of Vice President shall have served at District Associations either as a President or Vice President or as an Executive Committee member for at least 3 of the 5 years prior to being nominated as a candidate.

Other amendments include the new eligibility for a candidate for the Office of President, Secretary or Treasurer of the District Association.

It states that the candidate shall have served the District Association as a Vice President or an Executive Committee member for at least 3 out of the last 5 years.

In the amendment sent out by Fiji FA Chief Executive, Bob Kumar, it is noted that in recent years many officials appointed as President, Secretary and Treasurer have had no previous experience and frequently resign when they are under pressure, thus leaving the Association in a financial mess.

The Fiji FA also said that persons nominated will have to give a written undertaking to serve at least 3 out of the 4 years of their elected term in office.
