The Fiji Netball team has opened the 2007 World Netball Championship on a winning note at the Trusts Stadium in Auckland beating Singapore by 61 goals to 32.

The Mere Rabuka led side dominated played throughout the game with Taraima Rara and Matelita Shaw teaming up to pile the points for the Fiji team.

At defense, captain Mere Rabuka was cool under pressure and with the help from Matila Waqanidrola and Majorie Parr, the Singapore girls found it hard to score more points.

Coach Vilimaina Davu came on as a substitution and added further strength to the side as she called the shots from defense.

Fiji led 14 goals to 9 in the first quarter and they held a 34 goal to 15 lead at halftime.

In the 3rd quarter, the Davu coached side increased their lead to 47 goals to 24 with the final score of Fiji winning by 61 goals to 32.

After today’s win the side now shift their focus to a must win situation against the 3rd ranked Jamaican girls tomorrow at 7.10pm to top their pool.
