Fiji Day celebrations commence this morning
President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau and Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama will officiate at the celebrations at Albert Park this morning.
The public is advised that Southern Cross and Cakobau Road will be cordoned off during the Fiji Day parade at Albert Park from 9.30am to 11am.
Police will be on hand to direct traffic.
The celebrations in Levuka will have the Minister for Women and Social Welfare Dr Jiko Luveni officiate while the Minister for Labour Jone Usamate will officiate at the celebrations in Nausori.
Meanwhile, Labasa was filled with red and blue colours yesterday, celebrating Fiji Day.
Members of the public, business houses and corporate entities flocked to the town of Labasa in hoisting and swaying their flags up high as civil servants and school children marched through town.
Chief guest and Minister for Works, Transport and Public Utilities Colonel Timoci Natuva in his opening remark said Fiji has come a long way since Independence in 1970.
In Lautoka , chief guest and Minister for Youth and Sports Viliame Naupoto said the untiring work of the teachers in schools, the doctors treating patients in the hospitals and the knowledgeable advice from the elders has led Fiji to its success.
