The President Ratu Josefa Iloilo has called on the nation to take time to ponder on the treasured memory of Fiji's great leader and visionary, Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna and learn from his example.
Ratu Josefa said Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna had left behind a legacy in farsightedness, hard work, selfless service and sacrifice.
The President said the country can take pride in what Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna stood for, the example he gave, his courage, loyalty, commitment to duty and immeasurable service to Fiji.
He said all this was vividly displayed by the fact that he did not entertain any leave due to him during that whole 50 years of his public life
Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna died on the ship Arcadia at 9.45am on May 30th 1959 while on his way to England.
