Today Fiji Islanders across the country celebrate Fiji Day, a day 38 years ago when it gained its independence from Britain.
With the theme "Diverse Harmony For A New Fiji", activities have been organized in Suva with a march through the city.
The main ceremony will be opened by Interim Education Minister Filipe Bole at the Albert Park.
President Ratu Josefa Iloilo is also to make an appearance and address the nation.
This will be followed by entertainment by various schools and cultural groups, while people will also be able to get a chance to see demonstrations from various agencies.
Also, more than 1000 primary school students will be showing off their talents at the Art and Craft Exhibition organized by the Japan International Cooperation Agency or JICA, in conjunction with the Education Ministry.
This will all be held at Albert Park today while all other areas, Lautoka, Labasa and Rotuma amongst others will also have similar activities to celebrate Fiji Day.
Also, the Outgoing US President George W Bush has given his best wishes and congratulations to the people of Fiji on their 38th independence anniversary.
