Fiji Can’t Copy Singapore’s Civil Service
Those were the words of Fijian Teachers Association General Secretary, Maika Namudu who has raised concern that the Public Service Commission is planning to introduce new policies soon in order to bring Fiji's civil service in line with Singapore's civil service.
After returning from his visit to Singapore, last Friday PSC Chairman Rishi Ram had said that Singapore has a population of more than 4 million and yet their size of civil service is much smaller than Fiji's which has population close to 1 million.
Namudu believes Fiji can never change into another Singapore.
He says PSC should consult the unions and other stakeholders before making any decisions.
PSC Chairman, Interim Prime Minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama and Interim Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum toured Singapore and met with Singaporean Civil Service authorities.
