Fiji Bati wins opener at Mini Games
Against the Cook Islands Fiji scored two to Nemani Valekapa while Jone Yacadrau and Seruvi Ralulu scored a try each. They only had 30 minutes of rest before taking on Tonga in their second pool game.
Manager Mesake Navugona said despite the loss, he believes they are still on track to make the medal play offs.
Navugona said the short rest time between matches was agreed to by all teams in the rugby league competition.
Fiji will take on Samoa 1.55pm in their last pool game.
Meanwhile, the Fiji mixed touch rugby team will have to win its remaining matches to stand any chance of making the playoffs in the mixed competition of the Pacific Mini Games.
In the opening round match this morning, Fiji went down 9-12 to the Cook Islands.
Fiji will now meet Papua New Guinea, Niue and Samoa this afternoon.
In the Bowling competition, Ratish Lal remains on track to win the Gold medal.
Lal won his second match today beating an opponent from Tokelau by 13-2 and 9-5.
Lal who currently lies in third place on the points ladder will play Samoa in his third match today.
