The Vodafone Fiji Bati side will not only relish their chances of recording their first victory over Ireland but playing in Rochdale is more than just playing in the Rugby League World Cup.

The match is being played at the home of the Rochdale Hornets Rugby League Football Club, and it was at this club that Rugby League for Fijians was born in 1961.

Orisi Dawai and Joe Levula became the first two players to join Rochdale from Fiji, and with it they became Fiji’s first professional Rugby League players.

Former Fiji Bati rep Mike Ratu senior who now resides in Rochdale says the Fijian community is ready to accept whatever results the Bati produce on the day.

Meanwhile, the  Vodafone Fiji Bati takes on Ireland in their first match on the 29th at 7am.
