Vodafone Fiji Bati Captain Wes Naiqama accepted defeat to Scotland last night but remains confident his side will be back on track in the semifinal qualifier against Ireland on Monday.
Naiqama said while he was disappointed with the 16-18 loss, he is now looking forward to creating history by winning a spot in the semifinal of the Rugby League World Cup against Australia.
Scotland jump to second in the pool and will play Tonga on Saturday while France will play Samoa on Sunday.
Scotland led 12-4 at half-time but that was quickly eroded as lock Jason Bukuya scored in the 43rd minute with the help of four defenders to pull the deficit back to just two points.
Fiji looked to have secured the win when winger Semi Tadulala scored his second try of the night in the 73rd minute but Scotland went for a short kick-off and a try in the 78th minute which was converted to secure their first win since entering the World Cup in 2000.
