Fiji Barbarians team to beat in Marist 7s
Former Lelean U-19 rugby player Sikeli Vuruna was the standout player yesterday and is putting up his hands for selection after scoring five tries in two games for the shadow national side.
Vuruna was very powerful and aggressive in defence, he broke tackles, fended off players and showed blistering speed on attack.
Fijivillage asked if he is ready for national duties but Vuruna said that it's up to the selectors.
Other standout players to look for today include Samurai Barracudas duo Kaminieli Turagalada and Michael Nabuliwaqa while Aisake Katonibau, Sevuloni Lutu and veteran Dale Tonawai stood out for Army Green.
Former national rep Sitiveni Waqa of Police wants his spot back in the national side after guiding his side through their pool games while, Joji Ragamate, Nikola Matawalu, Joeli Lutumailagi, Setefano Cakau and Apisai Naiyabo are some notable names expected to make the trip to the next leg of the World 7s series.
The main eliminations kicked off this hour with defending champions Army Green defeating Suva Stallions 20-12, Nawaka 17-0 Covenant Bros Blue, Vuda Blues 10 - 5 Gusuniwai Brothers, Freshet Navy 7 - 14 Ratu Filise, Uprising 12 - 14 Red Rock 2, Red Rock 1 22-12, Uluinakau Babaas while the Digicel Fiji Barbarians will tackle Coastal Epic Dolphin in the last elimination at 10:15am.
