Fiji Airways will be hiring at least 131 local people this year.

CEO and Managing Director Stefan Pichler said this is according to their 5 year strategy plan to ensure more jobs and career opportunities are available for locals.

Pichler said they are looking to increase their total staff numbers by 28.5% and will invest in a trainee programme so they can qualify local people in roles across the company.

According to Pichler the five year plan for employment opportunities includes an increase in the flight crew staff members by 19 from 157 for the 2013 financial year to 176 for the 2014 financial year, and an increase in cabin crew by 26 people from 244 last year to 270 this year.

He said other operations within the airline will also see an increase in staff numbers from 125 people last year to 144 this year.

Pichler said the 131 employment opportunities for this year will see 99 join Fiji Airways while 32 staff members will join Fiji Link.

He added that they will be hiring more local pilots now and in future with 14 local pilots to be hired this year.
